Christian Riese Lassen, born in 1956 raised on the Hawaiian island of Maui, has
spent a lifetime captivated by the sea. Lassen is self-taught, using acrylics,
enamel, and oils to depict tropical seascapes drenched in light and richly
saturated colors. Paintings by Christian Lassen often immerse the viewer in two
worlds: one above and one below the ocean's surface. This split view
emphasizes the interconnection between humans and marine life. An avid
environmentalist, Lassen was selected by the United Nations as a Goodwill
Ambassador in 1998, the International Year of the Ocean.
